LOUPES AROUND THE

WORLD

Loupes Around the World was founded on February 28, 2007 by Dr. David C. Knight. The idea was developed after visiting Cambodia and Vietnam with a group of general surgeons sponsored by People To People Ambassadors. After visiting several hospitals throughout the area, Dr. Knight met a very busy plastic surgeon, Dr. Ly Heng in Phnom Penh. His practice consisted of plastic surgery; extremity and maxillofacial trauma, and pediatric facial reconstruction. Dr. Heng operated without the assistance of loupes or magnifying eyeglasses. Such assistance is vital for performing delicate operations; however this resource is not available to surgeons in many areas of the world due to financial constraints .

The objective of the foundation is to provide loupes to surgeons in developing countries who do not have the means to obtain them. We also developed a recycling program ("Recoup The Loupes") through which surgeons are able to donate their old loupes, and the parts are then used to create new loupes for our designated surgeons at a significantly reduced cost.

Loupes Around the World is charitable foundation incorporated in the state of Connecticut and is currently  approved by the IRS for 501(c) 3 status.
